Any input on Cub Cadet tractors? I'm looking to buy a 25hp compact for about 11 acres and small horse barn. The land is all open and the pastures will have to be bushhogged + I have about an acre and a half of finsihed grass that will need to be mowed. I'm thinking of a Cub Cadet 7260 w/loader [new] or a New Holland 1630 w/ 300 hrs, loader and hydro. Price would be comparable and Cub cdet dealer is close to house. My question is I don't see Cub Cadet mentioned much in these posts and I was wondering why? Any opinions would be welcome.

I've owned a Cub 7260 for about 18 months. It has 125 hours on it. I've bush hogged with it, chipped up a huge pile of brush this fall, hauled all my firewood, plowed, graded, and maintained my 1500 foot gravel driveway, & cleared an acre of land. It has loaded R4s, and a Koyker 150 loader. I couldn't be happier with this unit. It's been trouble free. I bought it after comparing specs with other units, and talking to dealers. The excellent Cub dealer in my area was the deciding factor. Feel free to e-mail me for more info. ....

I think the main reason you do not hear about cubs here is the availability. I am in SE Michigan, I have about 4 Deere dealers within 20 miles, about 3 New Holland within 30 miles, and one Cub dealer about 50 miles away. I would have considered one more if I had a dealer closer. ....

I hate to contradict somebody who actually owns one, but I tested everything out there before I settled on my Kubota, and of the 4 major brands (K, J.D., N.H, C.C) I drove, by far the roughest feeling, most "unfinished" looking and feeling, and generally the crudest one was the Cub Cadet. They may be extremely well built and long lasting, I certainly do not know, but I really felt that other brands had a higher level of fit, finish, comfort, convenience,noise control, and refinement than the Cub.
Just my opinion, but do yourself a favor and try several before you buy.

I hace a new cub a 36 hp with 21 hrs on it and as with the other guy I couldn't be happier. The reason I bought a cub was the weight. It was heaver than the others. As far as the comments from the Kabota guy I think he is a little proud of his tractor. I have owned tractors for twenty years with my cub do not expect to ever buy another tractor ....

I feel the same way that Paul B does. To me, the fit and finish of a piece of machinery is very important. So often I have found it to be a direct expression of the pride and quality of the the rest of the machine.
But I have to say that I had the exact opposite experience....When I tried out the Cub Cadets a few years ago I was very impressed with the quality of the outside of the tractor. And it ran just as nice as it looked. I'll have to go take another look next time I'm past the dealer.
I also rated both the new Masssey Fergusons and the Cub Cadet higher than the JDs and Kubotas for their open driving platform, handy controls, and ease of getting on and off. ....

Hi all. As another satisfied cub owner, I feel I should stick up for the brand a little. I have a 7265 (26HP Hydro) with cub loader and a cheap brushhog, and soon a 5' snowblower. It came with turfs. It's a 4wd and has worked great for clearing, field mowing, and stump and log pulling. The engine is a mitsubishi, and runs great. The controls are nice. It doesn't scuff my turf. It doesn't smoke. The roll hoop folds with no tools. Ok, I admit i have to open the hood to check the oil. I can live with that. ....

Gerard, I just went through the same decision you are trying to make. This is what I came up with. JD (4000 Series) High Priced lots of plastic and the power plant is a Yanmar on the other hand it a deere - a very good name. NH Boomer - its a joke, over grown lawn mower. Cub (7600 Series)- Built heavy and strong but powered by Mitsubishi - not detailed finished. Kubota 3410 HST - high priced and not green but its engineered extremely well and built to last and powered by Kubota. In my Decision JD is built to cheep (4000 Series only)- NH no way - Cub has not vested interest in the compact market (Totally Mitsubishi made unit with cub decals) and poor sales so far, they can walk away from this series any time they want. I was caught by that before when I bought a Bolens G1704 4WD (Iseki), a grat tractor but NO parts or service. I ended up with a Kubota L3410/Loader/Backhoe/Bush hog/Snow blower/blade - Yes, it cost a little bit more then the green, but it all designed correctly (I am Robotic engineer-So hopefully I know machines) and its all made to work together. Kubota is not a mismatch of components that they try to get to work together(JD) and it's not a subbrand that the "manufacture" can just walk away from when they want. Thats my two Cents.

Well I finally made a decision. I started looking at used tractors and discovered that most were worn out pieces of junk, because who would sell there pride and joy unless there was something wrong with it. I needed reliability for years to come, not something I have to work on all the time. I started with an older Kubota B-20 with loader and box scraper for $8000.00. I had an experienced mechanic look at it and found just too many things wrong with it. I then went through many more tractors from JD to Kubota to Ford and New Holland. I really wanted a Kubota for its Rep. and reliability, so I went to a dealer who is not to far from me, all major brands are close to me so distance is not a problem. I did an extreme amount of research for 3 months with various brands and had my heart set on Kubota, that is untill I sat down and talked prices. I was shocked to say the least but I still wanted Kubota. The dealer was very knowledgeable and courtious but was very stubborn about price dealing so I decided to sleep on it, (I almost did it). The next day I stopped by the Cub Cadet dealer one more time to talk turkey. I was looking at the Kubota 2150 for $21,500.00 loader and box scraper inc. with top&tilt Hyd.kit option. I was looking at the Cub 7205 or 7265. I decided on the 7265 but he didn't have one in stock but could get one from another dealer, he then offered me a 7305 for $500.00 more because he had one in stock. I ended up with a 7305 with loader, box scraper and optional hyd. top & tilt kit for $20,428.00. Not only does it have 30 hp. compared to 21 hp. on the Kubota but it is only 4 in. wider-still narrow enough to get between rows of grapes, but it is 900 lbs. heavier, lifts 600 lbs more, is overall larger, has a more open operators deck, and for bells and whistles it even has a tilt steering wheel-which I have allready found to be of great use. As far as fit and finish I have only found the hyd. hose routing that needed adjustment. I am extremely pleased with this purchase, I know I could have saved a lot by buying used but like I said I want this tractor to be around for a long time. I have really put it through the paces scraping our 1000 ft. driveway and have started moving enormus amounts of soil to level out our front yard to take in a fantistic view. This tractor can't be stopped even with a full load in soft wet soil and on a steep grade. The hydro. trans. and power steering is a dream. I wanted orange but god am I glad I went with yellow and white. Hope this letter helps pursuade some buyers to go with a superior (for the price) tractor. ....

Congratulations! I looked at the Cubs last year and was impressed, too. I think we discussed this last Spring although I didn't look to see if it was under this topic or another. I'll bet you look back on this ten years from now as a good decision. You can bet that your back will thank you! And a 30 HP tractor is much more versatile than a 20 HP. The other brand that nobody buys that impresses me just as much or more, is Massey Ferguson. Anyone out looking for a new tractor should take a look. The local BIG JD Ag dealer took on Massey as well last year. Now people can compare them side by side from compacts right up to the 200 HP and beyond. Just for even more fun The NH/Kubota dealer is a mile down the road.
I don't entirely agree with you on the used tractors. Compared to other mechanical devices like cars and even power tools, these compact tractors are just incredibley reliable. It isn't unusual for one to require nothing except oil changes for the first two thousand hours. And very little for the next thousand. So far I have not run across many with over 2000 hours, but they are bound to be out there. ....
